This is a one-day course in basic chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting techniques for anyone using a chainsaw on their own land. Chainsaws are provided but students must bring their own PPE.

Brushcutters and trimmers are popular tools across the agriculture, horticulture, landscaping, and grounds maintenance industries.

They save time and work efficiently in tricky terrains and situations. But they also have the potential to be one of the most dangerous machines in common use.

Our course will help novice users recognise and reduce those dangers.

You'll also learn how to optimise performance and carry out routine maintenance.

This course, formerly known as CS30, provides students with a thorough understanding of chainsaw maintenance and safe operation as well as the cross cutting of timber. Aimed at the professional user, it is delivered through both practical and theory sessions. Chainsaws will be provided but students must provide their own PPE.

There are no entry requirements for this course.

This practical course, formerly known and CS31, builds off the knowledge gained in the chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting course. After successful completion, students will be able to safely fell and process small trees up to 380mm in diameter. Chainsaws will be provided but students must provide their own PPE.

Entry requirements:

NPTC Level 2 Certificate of Competence in Chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting (003920) or (022003)

Formally known as CS38, you will learn about knots and harnesses, safe climbing techniques and aerial rescue including pole rescue. 

Formerly known as CS39, this course will teach you about operating a chainsaw in a tree, using a rope and harness. The course will concentrate on the five basic requirements for NPTC assessment, as well as drawing on safe and accurate working practices. Chainsaws are provided but students must bring their own PPE.
