Course Description

Introduction

Beneath the surface of the soil lies a world teaming with life which is intensely involved in a dynamic ecology . A healthy living soil equates to healthy plants, improved water management and carbon sequestration and lower costs of inputs and labour.  The health of the soil is an indication of the rich underground ecology. In recent decades, there have been extensive research uncovering the importance and function of this underground world for the environment around us and our own health. Many growers, horticulturists and groundsmen are using a range of tools and strategies to sustainably manage this soil ecology and to create a thriving living soil. This course will help you make the first steps in navigating the underground world of the soil living web. You will have an opportunity to hear from professionals about the importance of soil life, how it is assessed and most importantly, steps you can take to make a difference in your field of work. Whether you work in food production and farming, private gardens and public parks or sports venues, you interact with the soil and life within it daily. Being able to harness it as ally will prove beneficial to plant and planet.
